Demeter Militia
The Militia on Demeter is unusual in that it is manned by a class of person known as a Citizen. A citizen is a former concubine who on arrival at Demeter volunteered to serve in the local militia for a term of service. By doing so they received many of the privileges normally associated with having a Sponsor-level CAP score and volunteering to serve in the Confederacy military. The largest exception was that Citizens were not recognized as such off-planet; they were not allowed to leave the planet unaccompanied.
On Demeter, concubines are known as drones but are otherwise in the same position as concubines throughout the remainder of the Confederacy.
Using the Chinese Red Army as a model Governor Flowers decided that the militia would have both a military role and a civil role and would be used as the manpower for any development projects on the planet. This wet and dirty work as he described it would stop the militia from becoming an easy passage to citizenhood.
Structure
The Militia follows the pattern set by the Confederacy Marines.
Equipment
The equipment used by the Demeter militia is of local design and manufacture. Many of the replicator patterns used have been exported to other colonies creating a defacto standard for militia equipment.

A range of light six wheeled and heavy eight wheeled armoured vehicles equip all of the battalions of the militia. Variants include APC, Recce, Fire Support and Recovery.
LAVW-105D SP Anti-Aircraft Artillery
The 105D (D for Demeter) is a locally produced version for air defense that couples the M211 air defence system (see below) with a light wheeled chassis. The system comprises a pair of quick fire lasers, a thermal sighting system and a fire control computer mounted in an open barbette. It has a crew of four: commander/spotter, gunner, driver, loader.
Weapons

The M61 is the assault rifle carried by the Demeter Militia. It is a bullpup design, gas driven personal defence weapon which fired combustible cased ammunition comprising a 3mm depleted uranium core with a 6.5mm jacketed sabot.
The M261 grenade launcher was an underslung weapon designed to match the M61 assault rifle.
The M71 is the squad support weapon and differed from the M61 mainly in having a longer heavier barrel, which gave extended range and being adapted to take linked belt ammunition.
The mortar sections were equipped with the M11, 120mm mortar capable of firing rocket assisted munitions out to a range of eight thousand metres.
TheM88 plasma launcher was a man portable weapon with an effective range of two thousand metres.
The M211 air defense system was designed as a grav-sled mounted weapon system comprising a pair of quick fire lasers, a thermal sighting system and a fire control computer. The Demeter Militia had mounted a large number of these installations on the wheeled APC.
