Demeter
Demeter is the third planet and main colony world of the Poseidon system. It was named for the Greek Goddess of grain and fertility, "Demeter the pure". Its current Governor, the leader who is responsible for the well being and development of the entire colony, is Alex Flowers.
Demeter has a diameter of 14,000km (circumference of 44,000km) making it slightly larger than Earth. Due to the large ocean area its land mass is slightly lower in percentage terms but nearly identical in actual area (149,500 square km) to Earth's. The land is broken into six continents that have been named for the daughters of Demeter. These are:
- Despoina
- Arion
- Plutus
- Philomelus
- Eubuleus
- Amphitheus
Of these only Despoina is currently settled.
Despoina
This continent is host to the six townships that hold the population of Demeter:
- Celeus, Township - 3MEF Headquarters, ForceRecon, Assault Landing Regt
- Demophon, Township - 3rd Marine Regt
- Triptolemus, Township - 4th Marine Regt
- Polyxenus, Township - 9th Marine Regt
- Diocles, Township - 16th Marine (Art) Regt
- Eumolpus, Township - 3rd Marine Logistics Group
Each of 3MEF's component units are based in one of the townships of Demeter, located to allow the town to expand and provide plenty of area for the unit to exercise. The Air Wing is based on Persephone, one of the moons around Poseidon six and home of the Navy within the Poseidon system.
New Rules For Concubines
On Demeter to avoid the possibility of a slave revolt the Governor Alex Flowers implemented a system whereby all newly arrived concubines were offered the opportunity to volunteer to serve in the planet's Demeter Militia. During the term of service the Citizen would have the same rights as a Sponsor/Volunteer except that they would not be allowed to leave the planet. On completion of their term of service they would become full citizens of the Confederacy.
This led to a new designation of status that applied to the people based on Demeter:
- Regular - a Sponsor with a CAP Score score of 6.5 or higher
- Citizen - a former concubine who had volunteered for service on the planet
- Drone - a concubine who didn't volunteer for service on the planet.
