Atlanta

The Atlanta class is a light cruiser design optimized for close-in defense of other task force or fleet units.  The design was originated at Beerat when they found that their heavy battle-line units could handle anything the Sa'arm warships could dish out, but they couldn't handle the masses of local-space attack craft that many Sa'arm worlds kept for orbital defense.
The Atlanta design is based on the Raptor hull but instead of a mix of long- and short-range weapons the hull got fitted with as many high-volume fast-slew weapon mounts as the designers could find room for.  Point-Defense Lasers (PDLs), Point-Defense Railguns (PDRs), Light Particle Accelerator Beam (LPAB) turrets, StarSparrow mounts, anything they could find that could swat a Sa'arm bomber before it launched its pair of Plasma Torpedos or, if necessary, kill the incoming PTs before they struck.
As part of Beerat's fleet buildup, New Barton Yard built 44 of the "Atlanta" class of close escort cruisers to protect their heavy battleline ships before the news of the 3rd and 4th Battles of Earthat caused all new construction to stop.
After the 7th District Combined Fleet was able to retake control of Earthat space, the Saturn Naval Shipyard took the design over as an "official" CN design.  Beerat continued to build more for their own use, but Saturn made some minor changes to take advantage of the ease of crewing ships in Earthat space and started pumping them out as one of their standard designs, starting their hull designations with CLAA-101.  The easiest way to tell which yard built a particular ship (if you can't see the hull number) is to look for the midships launchers.
Beerat had removed the original Raptor design's "Sandcaster" launchers to cram more close-in weapons mounts.  Saturn put them back in, adding a new type of canister to the magazines: a bomblet canister.  This gave the Saturn-built hulls a long-range weapon to thin large 'flocks' of small craft before they got close enough to use the shorter-range weapons.
The bomblet canisters could be triggered by time, range, or remotely from the launching ship.  If a bomblet canister found itself in the path of a swarm of bombers, triggering it released its load of bomblets to search for and home on incoming bombers.  Each bomblet consisted of a guidance package, a small thruster. a fragmentation case, and a small explosive charge to scatter the fragments.  Since the design target, the Sa'arm "Lima" plasma torpedo bomber, carried no shield or armor, almost any damage would serve to cripple and "mission kill" the bomber.  After the battle was over, if the Confederacy forces remained on the field, other weapon systems could be used to eliminate all crippled bombers.
