(As of 5/13/16, this page is up to date all the way to the 7th District's expedition to recover Earth in Year 14.  It lists all "ships" but not all "small craft" built at Beerat.  Note that it does not list losses; they are listed elsewhere. -ZM)

The Original Expedition

The Original Beerat Expeditionary Force was assembled in Sol space from an assortment of old Confederacy ships, veteran CN ships, and new construction ships from the Saturn Yards, with Vice-Admiral Thomas Williams in command.  It consisted of:

  • 2 Raptor class large cruisers,
  • 3 Europa class cruisers,
  • 6 Africa class destroyers,
  • 6 Asian class destroyers,
  • 4 Shiro class corvettes
  • 16 Assorted Castle-variant corvettes (2 transferred from Tulakat OPF)
  • 3 Patrician class corvettes
  • 3 K'Treel Explorers
  • 2 Courier-class communications ships

One Explorer became a dedicated shipyard management facility, and approximately two years after arrival they received their only "reinforcement", the mothballed Mercury-class Marine transport Thor carrying one company of the 1st Marine Reconnaisance Regiment.

Initial Construction at The Womb

The three Explorers carried, among other things, the basis for several small construction frames.  Those were immediately put to work building infrastructure: two fuel refineries, several tankers, two life-support and damage control tenders, some in-system ferries, miners, tugs, and so on.
One frame was dedicated exclusively to building stations for an outer sensor shell for early warning.  Until the entire shell was complete, that frame did nothing else.  Other frames assisted with this when not assigned to higher priorities.
Once the Womb's immediate security needs had been handled and all intra-system infrastructure was complete, three frames were set to building Auroras, the Confederacy's standard 96-pod freighter.  The first one completed was named "Pride of Chanur" and kept as a dedicated colony transport for the Earth/Womb run.  The other two were turned over to Brak for use by other colonies.  The second set of three Auroras was under construction when Barton Yard was destroyed.  When they completed they were likewise turned over to Brak.  With the loss of Beerat's primary shipyard the Womb's facilities were first used for emergency repairs of our warships, then they concentrated on rebuilding the "New Barton Yard".
Only after the New Barton Yard was operational did the Womb's facilities return to infrastructure and experimental work.  Note that the "PBY" patrol bombers and the "Lawrence" barges were both developed here.  The PBYs themselves were built at the Womb while the barges were mostly built at New Barton Yard.

Shipbuilding at Barton Yard

One of the construction frames brought from Sol did nothing but build additional construction frames.  This enabled the yard to expand quickly and build ships as fast as materials could be gathered and crews could be assembled for them.  Ships and equipment built at Barton Yard before it was destroyed in the Second Battle of Beerat were (in order of construction commencement dates):

  • 3 Test hulls for "Junior Hero" guns, became "Folk Hero" casemate ironclad class
  • 3 "Junior Hero" guns for testing
  • 3 "Baby Hero" guns for testing
  • 1 Test hull for "Baby Hero" gun concept, became CNS "I Have A Big Dick" gunboat
  • 10 more (13 total) "Baby Hero" guns for destroyer upgrades
  • 6 Conversions of Africa-class destroyers to Africa-Plus with "Baby Hero" nose gun
  • 6 Conversions of Asian-class destroyers to Asian-Plus with "Baby Hero" nose gun
  • 16 Shiro-II ships, with "Baby Hero" on pivot, 2 PB turrets, 2 PT launchers
  • 3 Asian-based ships for "Junior Hero" gun and turret testing, became "Turtle" class monitors
  • 6 "Junior Hero" gun and turret assemblies for two-gun monitors
  • 8 "Medium Plasma Beam turrets for destroyer mods
  • 6 Modifications of Africa-class destroyers to exchange some disruptor turrets for PB turrets
  • 8 Four-turret Raptor-based ships, became "Snake" class assault cruisers
  • 1 Overhaul and repair for Europa damaged in battle, add "Junior Hero" spinal gun
  • 1 "Junior Hero" gun for Europa upgrade
  • 3 Overhaul and modification for monitors to make them more stable
  • 1 Overhaul for 2nd Europa upgrade with "Junior Hero" spinal gun
  • 6 Two-turret Europa-sized ships, became "Kent" class heavy cruisers
  • 20 more (36 total) Shiro-II ships
  • 1 Overhaul for 3rd Europa upgrade with "Junior Hero" spinal gun
  • 1 Overhaul and conversion for Raptor, replaced half of the canister launchers with missile launchers
  • 20 more (56 total) Shiro-II ships
  • 6 more "Kent" class heavy cruisers (2 evacuated unfinished, 4 additional hulls lost)
  • 8 more "Snake" class assault cruisers (all evacuated unfinished)
  • 20 more Shiro-II ships (6 finished, 10 evacuated unfinished, 4 additional hulls lost)

Shipbuilding at New Barton Yard

After Barton Yard was destroyed, the remaining small frames at the Womb were pressed into service for emergency repairs to our warships.  As each became open most were disassembled, moved to Ale, and became the beginnings of the New Barton Yard.  They started with the easy projects, the ones that needed the least work to complete.  The first six frames assembled were used to correct the design deficiencies in the surviving Snakes so that they were fully functional.  As each additional frame was assembled it accepted the 'leftovers' from Barton Yard, those unfinished ships which had been able to get underway and escape.  Only after all of the 'leftovers' were in frames did the New Barton Yard lay down any new ships.
One procedural change to avoid losing all of those half-built ships again was to build ships in sections.  For the same amount of shipyard support, the New Yard would build roughly four or five times fewer ships at a time, but those ships would complete four or five times faster.  Ships and equipment built at New Barton Yard were (roughly in order of construction commencement dates):

  • (modify) 6 original "Snake" class assault cruisers to correct design issues
  • (complete) 8 "Snakes", adding 16 missile launchers in bow
  • (complete) 2 "Kent" class heavy cruisers
