Europa

While the Europa Class Light Cruiser was our first independent warship design, the Europas are usually described as just a bloated Asian class destroyer with the addition of two forward arc Heavy Particle Beams and 4 Missile Launchers, all firing forward. The reality is that the Asians were a "Europa Lite", a cheaper escort designed from the Europas after most of the bugs had been shaken out. The Europas' secondary armaments are the same close defense weapons fit found on the Asians, 20 Medium Particle Beams and 10 Light Particle Beams in paired turrets.
The Europas are 155 meters long and mass 16,000 tons. A minimal crew consists of 10 officers and 60 enlisted personnel.
Naming Convention
Ships in this class are named for European Union cities of under one million population. The first 27 ships were each named for the largest qualifying city of the union member in order of acceptance into the EU. After that the names are assigned based on the numbers of citizens in the Confederacy. Each EU member has the right to say which of their cities is next used when their turn comes around.
