Type 93 Heavy Torpedo
A long range, low-observability torpedo that delivers a 0.92 kiloton nuclear warhead inside an armor-piercing casing that detonates in the interior of an enemy vessel. It is based on the concept of the famed "long-lance" torpedo of World War Two. Currently it is only used by two classes of the Japanese Empire based out of
Design
The propulsion package delivers thirty seconds of thrust before coasting towards the target at high speed, with an indefinite range. Once it acquires a target it can use 12 seconds of additional thrust to maneuver the torpedo into the enemy vessel. The low-yield nuclear warhead is intended to deliver damage with concussive blast effect and radiation within the hull of the target vessel.
Warhead
The warhead is a 0.92 kt plutonium nuclear payload fashioned from waste plutonium from the Rokkasko nuclear containment facility operated by Japan Nuclear Fuels, Ltd, a (fictional) subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The design borrows from a nuclear artillery shell that was part of the US arsenal during the middle of the Cold War.
Manufacture
In the story where it was introduced, the weapon is manufactured solely by Mitsubishi at an Earth moon base they have established outside of Confederacy or CENTCOM control.
