Scout Ship
A scout ship is a small naval reconnaissance platform designed to gain intelligence on the size, location and disposition of enemy forces. In the case of the Sa'arm, they are also used to potentially identify new planets for colonization. They are smaller than a corvette and carry very limited firepower, have virtually no protection, and depend on their speed and small size to evade combat. They are usually not assigned long-term missions, as they do not carry sufficient stores for them.
The Vacuna performs this role for the Sa'arm. The Confederacy has a special-purpose class for this in the Patrician, but it does not use them for such missions. The Confederacy usually opts for platforms such as a Castle corvette or a Archerfish patrol craft to fulfill such duties.
