Neil Conway
Neil Conway becomes Prime minister of Great Britain after the pro Confederacy Government of George Brown falls to a vote of no confidence. Conway is an honourable and principled man, who while believing that the Confederacy is generally a good thing, also believes its attitude to the peoples of Earth is wrong and likely to cause more trouble. He believes that the Confederacy doesn't need Humans to help in the fight, and that the professed peaceful nature of the Confederacy is in reality a mixture of cowardice and incompetence.
Politically astute, he is nominally slightly to the left of centre in British politics, and came into politics initially through the Green Party. It is his force of will, and genuine 'goodness' that allows him to hold together a coalition that includes politicians from both extreme left and extreme right wing parties.
His initial election win gives him only a small majority, but his general policies are very popular with the majority of the British people, and he wins the next pre-set general election 19 months later with a massive majority.
He lasts another 7 months in office until a manufactured scandal forces him out of office, to be replaced by a fairly new member of Parliament, Peter Lester.
At the time of his initial election, he is 47, and married with no children.
