Augmentation involves changes to a lifeform's physical body done by adding foreign materials to it.  Examples include subcutaneous armor, a built-in communicator, and blood-chemistry filters.
Contrast this with Enhancement, which is changes to a lifeform's physical body made at the organic level, be they genetically encoded and re-grown or merely biosculpt, where tissues are manipulated.  Common examples are growing a Marine recruit up to 2M height, with accompanying strength and durability mods, and modifying a concubine to be more pleasing to his or her owner's particular tastes.
