Enhancements are changes made at the organic level - be they genetically encoded and re-grown or merely biosculpt, where tissues are manipulated - rather than by the addition of hardware, which is augmentation.
The tendency to size-up a human being to the "standard Marine body, Mk I" is a manipulative enhancement rather than a genetically inheritable change and has provided some humor that issued uniforms actually fit the wearer.
Enhancements to concubines are usually cosmetic, and, up to a specific limit (the ability to inter-breed with non-modified human beings w/o any medical intervention) may be genetically retrofitted into the subject's genome and the biosculpt process reflects the encoding.
Genetic modification that is not corrective (heart disease, cancer, congenital defects) is discouraged but not banned.
Some notes:
- While post-menopausal women cannot have their mileage "rolled back" to restore fertility, human are working to make this possible. For those who are still fertile the age roll-back to post-pubertal somatic structure is not a problem and the result can be maintained for extended periods through nanotechnic augmentation.
- Males can be rolled back to any post-pubertal age needed in body structure and appearance. There is some nanotechnic augmentation done to help maintain this once the manipulation is done.
Simply put, enhancements are done via molecular biology, augmentation via machinery.
