This is a "Stub", or a short article with little useful information.  Any editor with more information about this subject is invited to help improve it.

Volumna Class Sa'arm "Recon Sphere"

The Volumna is the smallest Sa'arm colony ship that we have met.  It carries ~500 troops and 12 light ships internally.  This is the only Sa'arm colony ship capable of landing on a surface and taking off again.  Typical use is to land intact on a planet, then be disassembled to provide tools and materials for the new colony.  Alternately, if the planet is determined to be unsuitable for colonization the crew can use the attached light ships to refuel it so it can take off and try again elsewhere.
It is described in ZM's Guide to Ships as carrying 3 Vacuna hyper-capable scout ships internally, as well as 9 Lima or Lactanus local-space craft.

Details Known

  • Has ~30 Medium Particle Beam turrets.  Probably 27 (3^3)
  • Carries 3 light starships internally, usually Vacuna scout/patrol ships
  • Carries 9 smaller ships internally, usuallyLima or Lactanus local-space craft
  • All wrecked Sa'arm colony ships inspected had 243 (3^5) units in each "freezer" room
  • Live crew may be exactly 729 (3^6) units
  • Part of the crew may normally be in hibernation in two 243-unit 'freezer' rooms

(Someday this will be a navigation template.  It will provide a bar across the bottom of each article with useful navigation links.  Until then, this is just a placeholder to get rid of all the red "broken link" indicators. -ZM User (talk) 10:00, 3 May 2024 (PDT))
