Asian Class Destroyers
Asian class destroyers are a more defensive minded ship than their sister Africa class. These 120 meter ships carry an incredible 20 medium and 10 light particle beam cannons in paired turrets. Their primary mission is to fend off attacking fighters and missiles for the capital ships they are Escorting. Because of the number of turrets they do have a sizable crew of 9 officers and 46 crew.
Later naming patterns included every country in Asia on the list, but there were some conflicts and political considerations made. The People's Republic of China would not allow the Republic of China to use the name. They did not want them to use Taiwan either, but they were finally mollified when allowances was made for a later, larger ship to be named China, while Taiwan would only be a destroyer. Then, Russia and India demanded ships of the same class, so they do not have Asian class ships in their name. The Middle East imploded around this time and the names all middle eastern countries involved were removed including those of Israel, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Kuwait. Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. North Korea continues to not play well with others, so the representative ship is called only Korea. No one knows how Tibet slipped onto the list without China noticing, but they were allowed to keep Kong Kong and Macau.
After the buildup started in earnest, though, the Confederacy Navy needed names for additional ships, stopped paying attention to Earthside politicians, and started using any name available, even older ones.; Note that "Iran" and "Persia" were both used, and the two ships occasionally served together with a healthy competition about which was 'right'.
