Become a New Writer
So you've decided you want to join in the fun we're having and write a story in the Swarm universe. What do you do next?
Well, you've made a good start by finding the wiki which contains a lot of the background information and ideas we're playing around with - use this to add flavour to your story. Just remember that if it's something likely to be considered way out there to get Thinking Horndog's okay first.
Another step would be to join the authors mailing list (see above).
The mailing list is a good place to submit things like story ideas, plots, draft pieces and the like - feedback from the group is prompt and helps develop the story.
If you send your story to the mailing list as an attachment (.RTF by preference) you'll usually get at least one edited version back, and sometimes quite a few more. There are many enthusiastic editors who do a wonderful job helping find problems with a story. They also are not afraid of making suggestions if they see something they feel could be presented better. Just remember, it's YOUR story, not theirs. You don't have to take their suggestions.
When you're ready to post your new story, in order to make sure that all Swarm stories are available at the main "Swarm Universe" page you should open your own "Author" account at Storiesonline and ask Thinking Horndog to add you to the authorized author list.
Or, if you want, you can post it on another site and then tell us. We'll list -and link- it here as part of our Library.
(Writers _usta_ have the option of having it hosted on the Swarm Cycle's original home on ASSTR, but that site's gone now. There are various attempts to re-host it, but as of early 2024 none work for new stories. They just show what used to be there.
(Someday this will be a navigation template. It will provide a bar across the bottom of each article with useful navigation links. Until then, this is just a placeholder to get rid of all the red "broken link" indicators. -ZM User (talk) 10:00, 3 May 2024 (PDT))
